Beekeeper Project – Grades K-2

- INTRODUCTION: Bees have a very important job in the environment. Bees are pollinators. As a pollinator, a bee’s job is to carry pollen from plant to plant. Pollen is a yellow powder that plants need in order to grow new seeds. When plants make more seeds, more plants will grow. Many plants, nuts, fruits and berries depend on bee’s to get the pollen they need.
- GOAL – Your goal is to learn more about bees and what important job they do in nature.
- ROLE – You are a beekeeper who wants to know more about honeybees. You want to understand how they live and what they need in order to survive.

- CHOOSE ONE of the PROJECTS below to complete. You will need to create your final product using a Google tool (Doc, Sheets or Slides) or equivalent (Word, Excel, Canva, Prezi, Adobe Spark, WeVideo, Powerpoint, etc…) and submit to your teacher by the date required.
- NONFICTION BOOK:You are going to create a book about honeybees. You will need to do some research by using the internet to find out more about honeybees and why the numbers of living honeybees are changing. You will need to also provide some suggestions for how people can help honeybees. Each page should have pictures, captions, or a sentence that describes each picture. (Digital books can also be made using programs such as Glogster, Powerpoint or Google Slides.)
- HOME SKIT: Create and perform a skit that shows how honeybees gather pollen from flowers and take it back to the hive. This skit needs to be creative but also informative. The information in this skit will be helpful in understanding why the job of a bee is so important to our environment. Get creative and have fun with some props, music, rhymes and costumes for this performance. You may have a parent or a sibling help you record or perform your skit.
- ELA ACTIVITY: Ask your parent or caregiver to read this article Honeybees with you. Together or independently, you will need to submit a paragraph that explains what a honeybee does and how they live. Submit your essay to your teacher through the required platform.
